About the Assessment
All Distinct assessments are conducted by GMC-registered consultant psychiatrists. Your clinician will have completed specialist training in adult psychiatry.
We use the DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) and CAARS (Conners’ Adult ADHD Rating Scales), alongside a structured clinical interview following DSM-5 criteria.
The clinical consultation is 60–90 minutes. We ask you to join 5 minutes early to check your video connection.
Your report is a full clinical document prepared by a GMC-registered consultant psychiatrist. It is suitable for sharing with your GP, employer, university, or the DVLA.
Not at all. You can book directly. It’s worth keeping your GP in the loop — but that’s entirely up to you.
Eligibility
Adults aged 18 and over who are resident in England. You must be able to attend a video call in English.
Most likely, yes. Whether you’re coming to us without a prior diagnosis, with an existing one, or looking for a fresh assessment, get in touch and we’ll talk you through the right approach.
Please include details of any current medications in your pre-assessment questionnaire. Your psychiatrist will take this into account and advise you if anything needs to be considered before your appointment.
Our assessment focuses on ADHD. As part of a thorough clinical assessment, your psychiatrist will consider the full picture, including conditions that can present similarly to or alongside ADHD. ADHD and autism frequently co-occur in adults, and our psychiatrists are experienced in identifying where both may be present. However, we don’t currently offer a standalone autism assessment. If autism is a significant concern, we’d recommend speaking to your GP about an appropriate referral.
Your Report
Within 7 days of your consultation. Reports are typically delivered within 5 days.
A full diagnostic letter and detailed clinical report covering your symptom history, DSM-5 criteria met or not met, impact on daily functioning, and next steps. See a full breakdown of what the report includes.
A negative diagnosis (ADHD not confirmed) is still valuable clinical information. Your report will explain what the assessment found and suggest appropriate next steps.
Absolutely. Your report belongs to you. It can be shared with employers, universities, your GP, or the DVLA, wherever you need it. Read our guide to sharing your diagnosis with your employer.

All assessing clinicians are GMC-registered consultant psychiatrists — the body that licenses doctors to practise medicine in the UK. Our clinical governance is led by a consultant psychiatrist and senior NHS clinical leader with over two decades of specialist experience.
We provide a formal receipt for every assessment, suitable for submitting to your insurer. Whether your policy covers private diagnostic assessments depends on your individual plan — we’d recommend checking with your provider before booking.
After Your Assessment
You’ll receive your full report within 7 days. It’s yours to share as you choose — most people share it with their GP, who can then discuss any next steps around treatment or support. There’s no obligation to do anything with it immediately.
Not currently — Distinct is a diagnostic service. We don’t currently prescribe or manage medication. If you receive a diagnosis and want to explore medication, your GP is your starting point for NHS prescribing.
